Our History

The first recorded "motorized" pulling events took place in 1929 - one in Bowling Green, Missouri., and one in Vaughnsville, Ohio.  Forty-One years later, in 1970, four men from the Silk Hope and Snow Camp, NC communities went to the National Tractor Pulling Finals in Ohio after seeing an article in the Farm Journal.

After two years and a lot of hard work in promoting and creating interest in tractor pulling, they held their first pull in the Pleasant Hill, NC Community.  By 1973, they had formed the North Carolina Tractor Pullers Association (NCTPA).  Shortly thereafter, they were able to purchase a 35,000 lb. Weight Transfer Machine from Ohio.  They used this Weight Transfer Machine until June of 1975 at which time they upgraded to a new 68,000 lb. Weight Transfer Machine along with a portable scale that they purchased at a cost of $35,000.00 dollars.

At that time, the NCTPA was the only sanctioned association in North Carolina by the National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA) Inc..  During this time, the East Coast Tractor Pullers Association also existed and mainly ran pulls close to the southeastern coast of the country.  Sometime in the mid to late nineties, the East Coast Tractor Pullers Association and the NCTPA merged to form the United Pullers of the Carolinas.  Today, the United Pullers sanction pulls in North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Eastern Tennessee.
